TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection (child.tcu.edu).
The Jacob Center is one (of a few select) organizations bringing TBRI®-based services to Northern Colorado. We believe that TBRI® classes create a framework for caregivers that allows them to connect with children and youth and to understand trauma-based behaviors in a supportive and non-judgmental way. This foundational knowledge allows caregivers access to real-world skills that help create change in their family system, and also in community systems.
Our agency also incorporates Trust Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) strategies into our programming and we offer services and support through our TBRI® Caregiver training series (for staff, caregivers, community members, schools, etc.) and consultations (by phone, email, personal meetings, and video conferences). Our programs focus on nurturing and strengthening individuals and families so that they may continue to help themselves and their communities thrive.

TBRI Caregiver Training Series®
The TBRI® Caregiver training series involves 4-8 sessions. In that time, caregivers learn about the brain and trauma responses, discuss attachment styles in-depth, and learn strategies for empowering, connecting, and correcting children/youth in their care. This training can be offered in-person or virtually (or in a hybrid model). TBRI® Caregiver Training and TBRI® 101 are rated by the Prevention Services Clearinghouse, developed in accordance with the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA), as Promising Practices in Mental Health Prevention and Treatment (Purvis, K. B., et al; 2015).

Introduction: All participants MUST take the introduction before moving onto the other parts of the class.
Introduction/Overview: This one-day longer class offers the introduction in the morning with a brief overview of each of the guiding principles and some extra insights into each in the afternoon.
Connecting: Create connections that disarm fear, gain trust, and enhance learning.
Empowering Principles: Strengthen learning and regulation by meeting a child’s physical and environmental needs.
Correcting Principles: Shape beliefs and behaviors effectively, so children feel safe, protected, and empowered.
